AOL Scouts complete Bobcat Requirement #7 AND get to meet many of our Troops all at the same time!
About the event:
Tuesday October 13 2026, 7pm-8:15pm @ County Fair Building, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
On Meet The Troops night, our Golden Gate District Troops will host fun activities and distribute information about their regular meetings and any special AOL events they'll be holding.
RSVP for AOL Attendees:
Click here to RSVP your AOL scout!
Information for Troops:
Troops are welcome to arrive at 6:45pm to begin their setup. Tables and chairs will be provided for your table inside the building. You may want to bring a table covering or decoration of some kind. Plan to bring flyers with information about your Troop (meeting time and location, outdoor program details, etc) AND any AOL-invite activities you'll be hosting in October/November/December -- Marisol will be happy to print these for you with a few days of advance notice.
AOL scouts and parents will want to meet your scouts! If you'd like to conduct a fun outdoor activity this evening, activities can be held in the vicinity of the County Fair Building, including in the lawn/patio area in front of the building. Please do not plan activities that require the AOL scouts to leave this immediate area (no crossing MLK Drive, for instance). Plan for activities that take no more than 10 or 15 minutes. If you plan outdoor activities, plan to bring lights as sunset will be around 6:30pm that night. The event will conclude no later than 8:15pm.
Information for AOL Dens:
All AOLs are invited to attend with their parents! The event beings at 7pm; late arrivals are OK, though the event will conclude no later than 8:15pm. Please wear your Class A (Field) Uniform, and come with questions for the Troop members. You may want to bring a flashlight to help participate in any outdoor activities.
Special Thank You:

Frequently Asked Questions:
Since the Troop that shares the same number as my Pack is boy-only, I was told my daughter's time in scouting ends when she finishes her AOL year. Is that true?
Your daughter is VERY welcome to join any of our Family Troops or Girl-only Troops in San Francisco. Her scouting journey is just getting started! We are proud that since 2019, there have been more than 316 girls who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Golden Gate Area Council. In fact, our District logo (at the top of this email) was designed by one of the first female Eagles in San Francisco, Megan Otani! We hope your daughter, too, will join the ranks of our Eagle Scouts some day.
Don't all of the scouts from my Pack automatically join the same Troop?
No, all AOL scouts are free to join any Troop. Families should get familiar with the diverse set of Troops we have in San Francisco and pick the one that suits them the best. The combination of logistics, program focus, gender inclusion, where friends land and other factors should guide the scout. We do not have "feeder Packs" in San Francisco/Daly City; you have choice.
Aren't all Troops roughly the same?
We are extremely lucky to have a huge diversity of Scout BSA Troops in San Francisco/Daly City. Some Troops have a greater focus on HAT (High Adventure Teams) while others focus on skill development like cooking or leadership. Every Troop has similar qualities -- all programs are scout-led, follows the Guide to Safe Scouting and attends Scouts BSA Summer Camp -- but there are substantial differences as well. And, of course, the Troops are spread across the District and meet at different times of the week. Come meet the Scout Troops to learn more!
Can my scout switch Troops in the future if the one they joined isn't a good fit?
Yes! Each year, dozens of scouts in our District move between units for a variety of reasons. We encourage our scouts and scouting families to find a scouting unit that fits them best! Your scout's advancement comes with them to whichever unit they join.
Is there a maritime scouting program for my 11-13 year old?
Our Makani Explorer Club 19 welcomes all 11-13 year old youth who are interested in maritime fun! The Club meets twice per month to learn the basics of outrigger canoeing, sailing, rowing, and kayaking. This is a great introduction for those considering joining Sea Scouts at age 14. Many of our Makani Explorer scouts are ALSO part of a Scouts BSA Troop. Makani Explorer Club 19, Sea Scout Ship 22 and Sea Scout Ship 100 will all be at the event to provide information -- come say hi!
